INTRODUCTION: The Private Duty program provides services for those needing skilled services under orders from a private physician delivered in the patient's private home. Payment is through Medicaid. Visiting Nurse Association of Southeast Missouri is a not for profit organization.        


QUALIFICATIONS:  Diploma, associate degree, or baccalaureate degree in nursing.  Currently licensed as an LPN in the State of Missouri.  At least one year experience as an LPN in an acute care setting preferred and/or past experience in private duty.  Ability to accept and utilize supervision.  Ability to establish and maintain constructive working relationships with individuals and families.  Must have the ability to function independent of close nursing supervision, to rely on own judgment and skills.   **Must have Trach experience, and Vent experience is preferred.  Must be willing to learn and work with pediatric patients.  The employee should be able to sit for long periods of time.  Frequent use of hands to finger, handle, feel, and key.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 5 pounds.   Occasionally the employee must lift and/ or move up to 50 pounds with assistance.  Must be able to walk short distances, squat, or reach overhead.  Must be able to pass background checks, drug tests and physical.   


TRAINING: Training involves classroom training for VNA policy and procedures, Private Duty orientation to include policy and procedure of Private Duty program, skills training and evaluation, and on the job training with assigned client(s) prior to assuming independent care of the client. 

Duties: Follow a physician-ordered plan of care, assess symptoms of diseases and responses to treatment, teach patients and caregivers about the disease process, medications, precautions, diet, activity, etc.  Provide personal care, administer G-Tube and PO feedings, administer IV and injectable medications, perform prescribed treatments, provide wound management, ostomy care, and communicate changes in the patient's health to physician and RN supervisor.
